It was another wonderful evening at the Summer Songwriter's Night in Peggy's field. Thank you to all who attended and/or donated to this event. Special Guest Bob Thompson To Perform

Summer Songwriter's Night 2009 is pleased to once again welcome Bob Thompson, M.D., of Columbia, to the stage. Thompson has been a pediatrician in Columbia for 32 years and has performed the past three years at the annual Songwriter's Night. One of his most notable songs for this occasion, "Peggy's Field" is the perfect opener to a great night of music in the beautiful fields at Antrim.

At age 9, Bob Thompson bought his first rock and roll record, a 78 rpm of "Party Doll" by Buddy Knox. Six years later, he bought his first guitar that, according to Bob, completely changed his life in determining the college he attended, his spouse, and his decision to live in Columbia. He has played in several bands over the years, including the Tennessee Pride and has continued to develop his passion in blues, bluegrass and Americana music. His musical influences are Jesse Winchester, Delbert McClinton, Guy Clark, and Lester Flatt.

A principal organizer and participant of Summer Songwriter's Night, we welcome Bob Thompson once again to kick off the wonderful evening.

Marabeth Poole grew up in a musical family where her love of music and the arts was nurtured and developed into a lifelong passion. When Marabeth, then 18, followed her vocal coach Brett Manning to Nashville to pursue a music career, she could not have imagined all of the many exciting experiences that lay in store.

While working on her musical goals, Marabeth did everything from waiting tables to modeling to acting to makeup artistry. Through these and other experiences she realized she could enhance peoples’ lives in other ways beyond her music, and thus was born the award-winning Natural Oasis Day Spa and Salon.

Now a busy wife, mom, and business owner, Marabeth still finds time to pursue singing and songwriting. She has been fortunate to write with some of Nashville’s best and brightest of the industry and was thrilled to have one of her songs cut by ACM Top New Artist, Julianne Hough.

As a musician she appreciates many different styles of music and has been influenced by many musical greats such as Sting, Tina Turner, and Martina McBride. Marabeth draws on her vast experience and passion for life to bring a unique down-to-earth sound and writing style to the stage. She strives to live by the mantra “If you’re not givin, you’re not livin” and is blessed to give and live through her music.

Jean-Luc Le Dû Hosts Wine Reception Pre-Party

Summer Songwriter's Night 2009 announces the addition of Jean-Luc Le Dû to the Pre-Show Meet the Artist party. A wine connoisseur, Le Dû will be serving wines he has selected specially for the event and he will be on hand to discuss wines with the guest.

A musician at heart, Jean-Luc Le Dû came to the United States in 1985 from Gourin, a small village in Central Brittany (France) to pursue his passion for rock music. But after tasting a perfect bottle of Château Cheval Blanc 1964, his future changed, and he started on a journey to discover the pleasures of wines and hasn’t stopped ever since.

In February 1995, Jean-Luc joined Restaurant Daniel. His expertise and passion for wine soon convinced Daniel Boulud to make him the Head Sommelier, a position he held with distinction until December 2004. During his tenure he expanded the wine list to almost 2000 selections from around the world and established one of the best wine programs in the United States, while also creating wine lists for the all the new restaurants opened under the Daniel Boulud banner (DB, Café Boulud - New York and Palm Beach)

While at Daniel, Jean-Luc won the title of Best Sommelier Northeast America in the 1997 Sopexa Competition. In August 2002 Jean-Luc’s wine list was awarded the Wine Spectator magazine’s "Grand Award", as one of the best in the World. Shortly afterwards, after having been already nominated in 2000, he was awarded the James Beard Foundation 2003 Award for "Outstanding Wine Service"

Meet The Artists

Mark Selby is a native of Oklahoma and Kansas and now based in Nashville. He has established himself as a triple-threat talent: a gifted songwriter with serious guitar chops and a voice to match. Selby has written more than 10 top-40 singles and 4 #1 hits, including the Dixie Chicks' Grammy-winning There's Your Trouble and Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Blue On Black -- Billboard magazine's 1998 Rock Track of the Year. Wynona, Trisha Yearwood, Lee Roy Parnell & Keb Mo, JoDee Messina and many others have recorded Selby's songs.

A virtuoso guitarist and dynamic live artist, Mark Selby has shared the stage with B.B. King, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, Robert Cray, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Delbert McLinton, John Hiatt, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Collective Soul, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Levon Helm, Junior Brown, and many more. Selby has appeared on notable radio and television music programming including World Cafe, Mountain Stage, and Woodsongs, and continues to perform with his stellar backup band, as an acoustic solo artist, and in a duo with his wife and frequent collaborator, Tia Sillers.

Tia Sillers grew up in Nashville while hanging out at the world renowned live music venue Bluebird Café as a teenager. There she heard local writers like Don Schlitz and Alan Shamblin perform their music and she was mesmerized. Thinking herself a music lover and not a music writer, she went off to college in North Carolina and completed undergraduate degrees in English and Fine Arts, a Masters in Business Communications and also spent a semester in England interning for the BBC. Somewhere along the way she saw the light and came back to Nashville to pursue a publishing deal.

One of her most well known songs, I Hope You Dance, initially recorded by LeeAnn Womack, struck an emotional chord with listeners by capturing the essence of experiencing life. Sillers has also had many cuts by other artists including Alan Jackson (That'd Be Alright -- #1), The Dixie Chicks (There's Your Trouble -- #1 and Grammy Nominated), Pam Tillis (Land of the Living-- Top 5), Trisha Yearwood (Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love --Top 20 and Grammy Nominated) and Kenny Wayne Shepherd (Last Goodbye -- Top 5, "Was --Top 5, Blue On Black -- #1). Other artists to have recorded Sillers songs include Martina McBride, Trace Atkins, Trisha Yearwood, Diamond Rio, Wynonna, Patty Loveless, Sister Hazel, Vince Gill, Crystal Shawanda and Gabe Dixon.

Richard Leigh is a member of the Nashville Songwriter’s Hall of Fame. Richard’s penning of Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue sent him to the Country Music Association award stage to take home the prize for Song of the Year in 1978, as well as a Grammy for Best Country Song. In fourteen trips to the Top Ten with hits he has written or co-written, including recordings by Kathy Mattea, Steve Wariner, Crystal Gayle, Guy Clark, and Ray Charles, eight have become #1 singles.

The Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter is a veteran of 34 years in the music business and is rapidly becoming a rarity of longevity in Music City, USA. Other artists who have recorded Leigh’s songs include: Anne Murray, Martina McBride, George Jones, K.T. Oslin, Ronnie Milsap, B.J. Thomas, Bill Medley, Perry Como, Connie Francis, Debbie Boone, Conway Twitty, Alabama, Shenandoah, Tammy Wynette, The Bellamy Brother’s, Suzy Boguss, Guy Clark, Ricky Scaggs, Lorrie Morgan, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Marie Osmond, Jerry Jeff Walker, Kitty Wells, Bobby Bare, and many more.

David Pack has established himself as a respected solo artist, Grammy winning record producer, and music director of special events, including both of President Clinton’s Inaugurations. Along with being singer/guitarist/writer for the legendary rock group, Ambrosia, David produced and conceived Committed 2 Rock-18 song modern rock collection featuring Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters, Creed, P.O.D, Moby, 311, DC Talk, Jars of Clay, Nickelback,Lit, Jimmy Eat World, Barenaked Ladies, Fatboy Slim, LifeHouse, The Calling, and others Featured on MTV, and L.A.'s venerable KROQ--on Time Life Music.

As part of the group, Ambrosia, Pack wrote Ambrosia’s 3 #1 singles Biggest Part Of Me; How Much I Feel; and You’re The Only Woman and top 10 Holdin On To Yesterday- all awarded BMI 2 and 3 Million Airplay special achievement awards

He has also written music for West Side Story, Disney's animated classic Cinderella, Disney’s “Remember The Magic” 25th Anniversary of Disney World, and "Thank You Billy Graham" co-wrote with Pat Boone & Billy Dean featuring Bono, Leann Rimes, DC Talk, Michael McDonald, Billy Dean, CNN's Larry King, Andrae Crouch and others.
